Holy City Tattoo is a Fully Custom tattoo studio. We have no flash(pre designed images) and we prefer to work with each client on a personal level to achieve the best image possible.
After almost two solid years of looking for a location, HCT opened in 2007. Owner, Jason Eisenberg, realized a childhood dream to own a tattoo studio in his home town. Now this would not sound too impressive in any other state, but tattooing was illegal in South Carolina for many years.
After years in the tattoo industry, Jason knew he wanted to open a fully custom tattoo studio. This is not an easy task in an area that knew relatively nothing about tattooing, just short of what people learned from reality tv as well as their neighborhood kitchen magician(home tattooist). HCT’s first location, in Charleston’s Heavy Industrial area, had it’s ups and downs, lessons and heartbreaks. Many great friendships were forged and destroyed because of what HCT had become.
Jason was once quoted as saying in regard to his first studio, “She was my first wife and my biggest enemy. I loved her and hated her on a daily basis and in the end, I watched her die.” After dealing with the headaches of a huge location as well as many conflicting personalities, it had to end. The dream was dead.
Toward the end of three years in a 2000 square foot Leviathan, Jason made the decision to move his studio to West Ashley, a suburb of peninsular Charleston. It took over a year to find a new location, but it happened. The move included downsizing his studio to an intimate 800 square feet and most importantly move away from the desolate industrial area of Charleston.
When you walk into Holy City Tattoo, you are greeted by the Grey room. This room is the waiting area and has monochrome art hanging on it’s walls. The grey room and it’s art prepares you for the brightly window lit, colorful and artfully decorated walls of the tattoo and reception areas. Natural lighting gives a much warmer and inviting feel to the studio. The attitude in the studio is laid back, music is never too loud and laughing is the preferred group activity. Oh yeah, and the building is pink...
Each of our three artists has individual strengths artistically as well as a distinct personality. Please feel free to ask any questions, they will all give uniquely different answers.
Although our studio seems to lean more toward Traditional Americana, Japanese and Black and Grey tattooing, we do it all! No tattoo is treated more importantly than another. From tribal arm tattoos to full Japanese back pieces and everything in between...
Holy City Tattoo is a studio based on years of tattooing, art, family, friends new and old and a desire to make the coolest tattoos possible.
P.S. We like Skateboarding, Surfing, Art, Punk Rock, Reggae, Ska, Rocksteady, Jazz and Metal... Hope you do to...
